For most of the year , the weather in my home state is not known for it’s low temperatures . The weather is temperamental, yes . Volatile , of course. Maybe a little bipolar and definitely unpredictable but it doesn’t get unbearably cold or at least not often .The weather in Texas is always a roller coaster ride and there’s nothing to do but expect the unexpected when it comes down to it . The last two weeks have been unprecedented and one for the record books .
Today is supposed to get above freezing. It couldn’t come soon enough. I consider myself one of the lucky ones because I only went without power for a total of 36 hours. Unlike many of my neighbors, I still had water and so far , my pipes are still in good shape. Unlike some of my neighbors, I didn’t have to endure a house fire with no water pressure to put it out . Unlike some of my neighbors, I didn’t have small children . I also didn’t have underlying health problems that compounded the situation. I consider myself one of the lucky ones because I can write about it .
What I know I’ve learned and I hope that others have also is that it pays to be prepared. You can’t control the elements and you can’t control what anyone but yourself does . I’m going to give myself the best chance in a disaster that I possibly can .
Prayers to all still suffering and struggling due to this situation . The weather may be clearing out but now the clean up begins . 2021 can calm down now , we already need a break .
